In Avengers infinity war, Thanos said to Gamora, “Reality is often disappointing”. Indeed the reality is often disappointing, although the context was different in the movie because people tend to avoid reality and no longer feel tempted by it. Reality is nothing but all existent physical form in the whole universe. We often believe in imaginary things rather than physical things. When human evolution began the only reality was survival and now humans don’t need to struggle for survival, then humans invented unrealistic and imaginary thoughts like Empire, Religion, Caste, law and many more. We are glad that these imaginary thoughts bind people across the planet earth in different groups. Evolution is a continuous process and humans are still evolving but we are far away from reality. The imaginary thoughts have now become the reality. People believe in internet over books, fake gurus over doctors, social media over real media (Communication), nationalism over patriotism, future over history, lie over truth, movies over dramas, news over facts, the majority over minority (not related to religion), feminism over equality and list can be endless.
When Matrix movie came out and it broke all the box office records, become the most successful movie of all time. It was all about “What is real”? When neo found the answer it was not as pleasant as he thought but a bitter truth. Just like this, for Thanos, the reality is ugly and needs correction. The other reason why people avoid reality because it does not please anyone, can we be happy that today people die because of overweight than famine? Thousands of animals are being killed every second in the world, people die because of the internet (Selfie, Games and news), and water scarcity is a bigger threat than world war.
The reality is determined by the people who hold the supreme power and that’s why reality is now different than earlier. Reality has shifted from empire to democracy, Polytheism to monotheism, physical power to psychological power, communists to capitalists. We all would like to live far away from reality for example we don’t want to accept our failure and want to believe that otherwise. We blame everyone but ourselves (let’s face it is hard). We judge people but don’t want to find out the real reason. We expect too much but when the time comes we don’t put our real efforts. We carry superficial knowledge but don’t bother to read. In the end, everything we believe is reality.
