Great Expectations

I may have copied the title from the book of Charles Dickens but it’s got nothing to do with the book. Great expectations lead to disappointments and plausible explanation could be, we don’t expect what we want rather what others want.
Why we expect?
Sometimes we feel that we have put efforts in something and want some returns but we tend to forget that expected returns might be undesirable. For example, when you invest in the stock market and you want a 100% return in a month and it’s possible but not possible every time. Same goes for life, we want a big house, cars, a beautiful wife/husband, a successful career, popularity, money and expectations build up over the period of time without realising that you may not get these things and when the mirror shatters life seems to be falling apart. In modern times, expectations are being fuelled by the social media and when someone posts on social media (achievement and life events), you want that happen to you and you may not realise now but in subconscious mind you want that.
Meeting expectations is most joyful happiness in a life and when expectations don’t meet, we feel sad, depressed, disappointed, frustrated and sometimes oblivious.
We live in a cynical world, people sell expectations and want us to expect, even if we don’t want to.
Thanks for reading.
