The role of media has always been vital in every part of the world and now journalism is known as media. Journalism and media can be perceived as a voice of voiceless people and it gives the strength to the people who can’t raise their voice against atrocities. Because of media, we know things and aware of what is happening in the world. With the support of the societies, media has grown as an independent body with certain powers which can’t be oppressed easily.
Media has evolved from sharing and creating the information to the masses and now, media is business. The purpose of business is generating profits and to generate profits, media has ventured into the entertainment and justice industry where the value of news is irrelevant as WHO is irrelevant in the current pandemic. The impact of media has become wider and wider as the internet took over the traditional media platform. Nowadays, media is all about scratching the controversial topics and following orders from their respective masters. The authenticity, truth, unbiased opinion, accurate reports etc. are just myths. The shift from authentic news to entertainment has brought havoc and the most unfortunate part is, people are convinced that whatever the media is presenting is accurate and authentic. The media is taking advantage of the vulnerability of common people and momentarily the fake news is more deadly than coronavirus.
In a popular superhero movie there is a quote “With the great power, comes great responsibility” and today’s media is misusing the power without any accountability. Thanks to the internet, big brother is having the third eye and we are being watched and tracked without our consent.
