Be a man

β€œWhen a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man.” – Anthony Burgess.

The expectations from a man have changed dramatically in recent times. Earlier, the role of a man was to be a protector and provider. However, in today’s world, it’s not enough, a man has to be fearless and can beat the shit out of five men anytime. A man must have qualities – cook like a master chef, make tons of money, physique like Greek gods. He has to be sexy and super intelligent. He must carry cash and pay whenever it’s required. In short, he has to be perfect, and the only problem is that – such men don’t exist on the planet earth.

Stereotypes about men

Don’t cry – To prove you are a man, you need to forget how to cry. From a young age, we were told if you are hurt don’t cry like a baby and be a man. So, if men can’t cry then, what they supposed to do when they are in emotional wreckage – whine about it. Slowly you move closer to the worst way of stoicism if you can’t express your emotions.

Be strong and work hard – While growing up, every elder must have said to you to be tough to survive, and my question was – am I going to war or fight with a lion? And, the answer was – Son, tough man gets respect. After few years, I realized people don’t take you seriously if you are not strong. That is the reason UFC fighters get a lot of respect in the fraternity.  Men are expected to work hard till death, and if you can’t – you are cursed with weakness. Even in the gym, if a guy does not lift a significant amount of weights, he is considered a weak male version of Homo sapiens.

Accept responsibility without excuse – Whatever actions a man takes in his life, he has to take responsibility even if it was not his fault. In short, you are screwed whether you take a decision or not. A man must apologize for his actions again and again till the time he faces another dilemma.

Society is nothing but a drama club where every character has to play a role, and for men, it’s scripted. When men are fed up with the stereotypes then, they start fight club and disengage from the right club.

  1. Each word is purely perfect fit of current expectations out of men but my man is too lucky being out of the box of all the mentioned expectations. My guts from the heart to do all those honours to my man, he is a cupid β€œGreek God”. He just loves me n I love him more than that. Excellent post my friend

  2. Awesome post! Men are human just as women are and we must permit them to BE human. Thank you for posting about an issue in society that isn’t addressed enough.

    1. Crying is ice breaker for men and many won’t cry because of stigma. Couldn’t agree more, we must live like we wanna live πŸ™Œ

  4. The roles for both men and women are heavily scripted. If it takes this much effort on society’s part to train us to our roles, what more evidence do we need that they’re not natural and can be changed?

  5. Men aren’t as expressive as women. They hold back. Makes it even tougher for them. Good points. πŸ™‚

  6. The thing about being strong as a man, means that none of that stereotype matters. It is pure weakness to allow the beliefs of others to dictate how you go through life.
