Love never dies of starvation but often of indigestion- Ninon de Lenclos.
We are living in a time where two worlds exist simultaneously – one world where people are full of bellies and another of empty bellies. It seems strange that after so many years of economic progress, people are still starving. I recently watched the Joe Rogan and Yeonmi Park podcast, and she shares her story of how she escaped from North Korea and survived the mass starvation concentration camps. After listening to her it feels that we have two planets, not two worlds. Starving people want only one thing – food but people with full bellies want zillion things.
A world of abundance
Abundance is like a tsunami, and it leaves behind the wreckage. Some parts of the world are abundant with food, resources, knowledge, wealth and power and, it’s a hard punch that can make you or break you. In the USA more than 40% of people are obese. It’s not they want to eat more but, they can’t stop eating. On the other hand, because of the abundance of resources, they became the most advanced nation. The greatest advantage of abundance is that you don’t need to worry, and you can explore anything which leads to advancement in science and technology. What would you do if you had an abundance of resources? Either you use them to influence or dissuade.
A world of scarcity
Humans have survived from scarcity every time but, now we can’t survive when money is scarce. We are no longer afraid of survival but afraid of not getting more likes on Instagram. The scarcity has changed its face in an abundant world. However, in some parts of the world people are starving due to a lack of food or tyrant rulers. Around 800 million people go to bed without food worldwide. That’s huge. When there is no food on the table, you won’t think about global warming, world peace, racism, freedom, cryptocurrencies, politics, space, mars, aliens, and education so on. What matters is food. Such a part of the world will always lack behind and will fall into inequality.
The fulfilled world will grow exponentially but, the starving one will always struggle to leave behind – the void of scarcity.
